The Opportunity:

Our organisation manages a number of Therapeutic Out of Home Care (OOHC) Services for Children and Young People (CYP) aged 12 - 18 years. These are often long-term placements for the Children and Young People we support. The services operate 24hrs/7 days a week and the Support Workers we are looking for will need to be available to work weekdays, weekends, public holidays, morning, evening, night and sleep over shifts. These are not just jobs, they are career opportunities.

Youth Workers in the services are strong positive role models who are responsible for a wide range of duties including providing positive support in the following areas – emotional/behavior support, health, incident management, personal care and hygiene, transport, education, community access, cooking and domestic duties which are performed in a safe, consistent, and secure home. Youth Workers are responsible to help, guide and support the Children and Young People to develop independent living skills while ensuring all of their day to day care needs are being met. This includes the implementation of clear routines, structure and positive behavior support practices and strategies.

Essential requirements:

  • Must have a Diploma of Youth Work, Disability Services, Community Services or relevant industry qualification
  • Experience providing direct care in OOHC services and/or disability-based accommodation support services
  • Good working knowledge of the Children and Young Person’s (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment as a member of a multidisciplinary team and in partnership with other services
  • Sound practice and knowledge or significant experience in meeting the holistic needs of Children and Young People who may have Autism or Intellectual Disability
  • Driver’s license
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Working with Children Check and National Criminal history check clearance
  • Available and willing to work weekdays, weekends, public holidays, morning, evening, night and sleep over shift
  • Experience working with Children and Young People who have experienced complex trauma backgrounds.
  • Experience working with Children Young People who display difficult or challenging behaviors
